Reporting to BU Head with 30M EUR global budget and 40 direct reports. 1.8B EUR Filtration BU faces long term business extinction due to shift towards e-mobility. Worked on strategic industrial road map for 2030 and how to balance the BU resources in the e-mobility large scale transformation aligned with ESG targets. Modelled the necessary activities by product/ regional clusters and strategically deployed KPIs to achieve cost leadership, fundamental to become the "Last Man Standing" or market leader.

MAHLE Behr Group specializes into the thermal management on the engine as well as the cabin with HVAC, Chillers, Coolers, Heaters, and Compressors. It develops holistic thermal management solutions for electric vehicles, and is a strong enabler for electromobility, and therefore at the centre of MAHLE shift to e-mobility. In 2019, 23,000 FTE generated 5B EUR sales, or 40% of MAHLE Group turnover, making it the group’s biggest BU.

Complete Business Restructuring as General Manager Japan Aftermarket 2013-2015
Promotion to General Manager Japan, Aftermarket, after successful APAC business scale up.
Achievement: Turned a loss-making trading activity of 30M EUR turnover into a profitable business by restructuring a distributor trading company. As customer-facing lead negotiator, spearheaded business ramp-up from 30M EUR to 45M EUR by securing 100 plus customers in SEA and MEA. Turnaround success led to promotion to Director in MAHLE Headquarters in Germany.
Challenge was to define strategy to take full control of the domestic and export distribution channels and restructure the local team operating under a conservative Japanese business style.
Action
• Analysed export business flow, retained most of existing accounts and defined customers’ group target in 10 countries in SEA and MEA thus implementing the “Go direct” distribution model with increased marketing and product development
• Managed legal battles terminating distribution agreements for some Japanese Exporters and sales agents
• Defined process and business strategy to gain access to new tenders in the domestic filtration market
• Introduced engine components in domestic market by developing new sales channel with engine remanufacturers
Results
• Shifted P&L from loss to 2.0 M EUR sustainable profits
• Increased Export Sales by 100% worth 15M EUR additional revenue in 3 years
• Succeeded in developing Filter domestic business with new tenders impacting sales plus 10% or 1.5M EUR
• Hired, coached and trained 10 staff setting-up Customer Services, Product Management and Marketing functions
